Have a drink

29.07.17_22-38-26

Sul Sul!

Elena North here,

continuing the story about my descendants,

who struggled to live in a post-apocalyptic world.

The water was unsafe to drink,

radioactivity trickled in.

Only the liquid locked in fresh food from outside the region was safe,

and kept us from total dehydration.

03.07.17_23-20-34

Marvin wanted to find out what could make our tap water drinkable again.

01.07.17_02-06-22

01.07.17_01-02-31

He experimented like my son Patrick had done before him…

01.07.17_00-58-43

01.07.17_00-09-43

01.07.17_00-07-25

01.07.17_00-06-46

01.07.17_00-00-53

02.07.17_01-26-34

02.07.17_00-31-57

… but failed and failed again, like Patrick had done before him.

03.07.17_22-35-25

15.07.17_21-58-53

03.07.17_22-40-02

But then – ah!

The water first had to be cooled down to an „almost icy“ temperature,

and then three different liquids had to be added at one time.

That did the trick!

The water could be drunk again!

03.07.17_22-40-32

29.07.17_22-38-26

Oh, how heavenly to still one’s thirst with a good glass of water.

Or any other drink, for that matter.

31.07.17_16-48-15

02.08.17_19-47-22

Then Marivn grew older and grey as time flew by…

… and finally died of old age.

05.08.17_21-39-09

R.I.P., Marvin North.

Thanks to you, we can have safe, wonderful water and drinks again.

I need some short pause,

and then I’ll soon go on telling about my family.

Until then I remain,

sincerely yours,

Elena North

Ain’t it just a game

03.07.17_17-42-28

Hello!

Elena North here,

continuing the story about my descendants,

who struggled to live in a post-apocalyptic world.

Electricity was weak and faulty.

Still, my descendants were magically drawn in by the computer.

11.03.17_17-49-38

01.04.17_18-54-11

You do remember my granddaughter Marina’s three kids, do you?

Christian, Marvin and Enrico.

Let me tell you about Christian.

04.06.17_21-58-35

Like the other two, he grew up soon…

15.06.17_14-07-37

His brother Enrico got a partner, Victoria Winchester.

Christian stayed single, but he loved Victoria’s cooking.

01.07.17_00-26-42

01.07.17_00-01-12

Playing chess with Marvin was Christian’s way of having fun,

when electricity was off.

When it was on for a couple minutes or hours,

Christian was playing video games.

He shared one bed with his brother Marvin all his life…

03.07.17_17-57-17

03.07.17_17-42-28

Playing videogames was his life.

03.07.17_17-42-08

03.07.17_17-10-17

15.07.17_23-24-23

His brother and Victoria had a child… and then another.

15.07.17_20-57-28

15.07.17_20-16-39

15.07.17_18-30-09

While Christian knew romance only from „woohooing“ sims in „Sims Forever“.

But then:

Christian took all his knowledge about electronics and network connectivity,

and led a joint effort to restore servers, cell towers, and reconnect fiber optics.

Suddenly power was back on and super strong,

and internet times were super fast!

They could even have a TV now…

25.07.17_20-19-44

… watching the zombies roam the streets,

from a safe distance.

25.07.17_19-29-02

31.07.17_16-58-04

Meanwhile his brother Marvin had found out something interesting as well…

but I’m jumping forward.

Let me finish telling you about Christian first.

Well, he grew old and grey, and still enjoyed videogames and Vic’s cooking.

05.08.17_20-14-01

05.08.17_21-41-30

He died of old age.

R.I.P., Christian North.

Thanks to you,

we can enjoy TV and internet…

Phew, I need some rest.

And a drink.

I’ll be right back,

continuing the story.

Until then I remain,

sincerely yours,

Elena North

Clean and new

Sul Sul!

Elena North here,

continuing the story about my descendants,

which struggled to live in a post-apocalyptic world.

Yes, I am fresh and clean,

but for a very long time,

my descendants quite never were.

01.07.17_02-06-35

But let me introduce you to the woman you see here in the background.

This woman is Victoria Winchester.

She, like me, came from the WonderChild project,

and was sent to join our family by becoming wife of a male heir.

It was soon clear that she’d be with Enrico, one of my great-grandchildren.

30.06.17_23-28-09

So Victoria came to live with us, first without being officially married to Enrico.

30.06.17_23-24-46

Victoria is a woman you just have to like…

she is ambitious, good, and cheerful.

And she is a master at cooking.

Nevertheless, when it came to looking for „her mission“ in Glassbolt,

it was very obvious to her she’d try to send an emergency call for help with hygiene.

15.06.17_19-56-22

Many hours were spent on the computer,

writing down everything about the current situation

and what people around town told her.

It all served as evidence for her articles in her blog.

But no one seemed to visit her blog,

and her articles didn’t get read yet.

01.07.17_10-28-22

Fun was hard to find, but Victoria enjoyed paging through the old books we had.

Other than reading, she also liked playing chess,

the family pastime.

01.07.17_00-38-39

01.07.17_00-31-16

Writing…

Everybody was enthusiastic about her cooking skills.

She cooked wonderful food,

and always saw to it that it contained enough of it’s own juice…

which was important,

because there was not even a drop of water safe to drink in Glassbolt.

Only the liquid locked in fresh food (coming from regions nearby) seemed to be safe.

02.07.17_16-51-30

Being stinky was what she hated most.

So she dedicated her time to try to find a solution.

We needed someone to repair the broken sewage and restore clean running water…

… and we needed medical care, medicine and hygiene products.

02.07.17_16-23-29

Victoria also willingly accepted to be the main cleaner of the house…

02.07.17_01-40-41

02.07.17_01-21-20

Her love to Enrico continued to grow.

02.07.17_01-08-45

She spent many hours in front of the computer,

and gathering evidence from people around town.

02.07.17_00-47-34

02.07.17_00-24-14

Victoria and Enrico both slept in the same bed, as a couple, but not married… not yet.

And they often played chess together.

02.07.17_00-19-44

Victoria continued to make yummy, juicy food…

02.07.17_00-15-15

… and was not too fine to scrub the toilet.

02.07.17_00-10-22

03.07.17_22-32-29

Chess continued to be her major source of fun and enjoyment…

… as writing so many articles was wearing her out sometimes.

03.07.17_22-23-00

03.07.17_21-11-31

She and Enrico shared a deep love and understanding.

03.07.17_21-03-28

Playing chess with Marvin…

… to emotionally balance the big lot of work…

03.07.17_19-22-24

Interviewing people out on the street…

03.07.17_21-01-08

Napping beside Enrico, she found calm…

03.07.17_20-44-16

03.07.17_17-38-43

A few splashes of water had to do to clean her hands every now and then…

03.07.17_16-54-25

Playing chess with Marvin…

And then, one day, suddenly,

Victoria had her breakthrough.

Someone clicked on her blog, saw the evidence,

and shared it on social media.

The images and texts soon went viral.

Medical trucks were sent to Glassbolt,

and the faulty sewage repaired in a few weeks.

All of a sudden,

GLASSBOLT HAD CLEAN(ISH) WATER AGAIN!

06.07.17_22-05-05

Finally Victoria (and also all my descendants)

could wash themselves properly.

06.07.17_22-08-07

After the first shower of his life,

Enrico felt like a new man.

He felt so good he approached Victoria:

„I’ve got some question for you…“

06.07.17_22-12-54

„Can we go outside the house?“

06.07.17_22-21-14

„Victoria, will you marry me?“

„Of course, yes!

I DO!“

06.07.17_22-23-30

And they took their vows right there outside the shelter’s front door.

06.07.17_22-23-49

Only a few days after their wedding night,

Victoria approached Enrico with a huge smile.

„Enrico, I’ve got some great news for you.

You know, the trucks bringing medical supplies…

… well, I took a pregnancy test from them and did it this morning…

and what should I say, I’m POSITIVE!

WE ARE HAVING A BABY!“

06.07.17_22-26-08

So, the story continues…

and I’ll soon go on counting.

But I’ve noticed my favorite TV show starts in a minute.

So let me leave you off here now –

I’ll be back right afterwards,

telling you more about my great-grandchildren’s life.

Until then I remain,

sincerely yours,

Elena North

Wasting (game) time

Sul Sul!

Elena North here.

I’ve wasted some time playing a video game…

thing also my descendants loved,

only that they seldom had the opportunity.

Electricity in our humble shelter was unsteady and faulty,

internet connection often broke,

and all electronic devices were crippled in their functionality.

11.03.17_17-49-45

The husband of my granddaughter Marina, Akira Kibo,

loved playing video games, and wanted to play as much as he could.

01.04.17_19-45-34

I can’t remember when Akira really joined the family.

It all happened too quickly.

One moment Marina was in love with him,

and the next they were married and had three stinky, crying toddlers.

01.04.17_18-48-44

Of course I can remember when they were small, manageable babies…

Akira made a good father, caring for them very well.

01.04.17_18-42-2106.04.17_11-10-31

Life wasn’t easy with Marina and the three toddlers…

but Akira tried to be the best father possible to them. And it marked them.

08.04.17_12-36-22

He overwatched the tots, while playing on the computer…

08.04.17_12-09-41

08.04.17_11-26-12

But he was already an elder when the kids were young,

and he died his death of old age…

06.05.17_18-36-18

R.I.P., Akira Kibo.

At least you can say you helped to raise wonderful kids.

I’ll go to the bathroom quickly to freshen me up,

and I’ll soon be back counting my family’s story

with a brand new twist!

Until then I remain

sincerely yours

Elena North

Stinky SOS

Sul Sul!

Elena North here.

Yes, I am fresh and clean now,

but for a very long time,

my direct descendants seldom had that feeling.

11.03.17_17-49-17

My grandchild Leo had decided to consecrate his life

to send out a SOS to the world:

we needed medicaments, medical care,

and, most of all, clean running water.

02-10-16_16-04-07

Just to recap:

Leo North was the second baby born to my daughter, Carolin.

06-10-16_04-14-27

He grew up in our postapocalyptic world, in our humble shelter,

and still was quite a happy child.

He liked watching chess games between his father,

Florian Palm, and his uncle Fabio.

02-10-16_21-12-53

Like his big sister Marina, Leo loved playing with the dollhouse.

I had built it in my early days in the shelter,

to teach future generations how life used to be before the Apocalypse.

It should inspire them to make the tales a living reality again.

02-10-16_21-06-39

Leo was good at learning skills, his parents and big sister Marina helped him to grasp

reading, writing, calculating and all other things kids need to know.

02-10-16_21-06-17

02-10-16_20-57-50

The days went by, eating, sleeping, simply existing…

06-10-16_03-56-09

13-10-16_13-59-06

31-10-16_18-22-36

Then, he grew a teen.

31-10-16_19-23-45

06.02.17_21-55-2706.02.17_21-34-01

26-11-16_21-33-07

He had watched his aunt Celina try to send out an SOS all her life.

But she was growing old… and nobody heard her.

11.03.17_18-45-19

Playing chess with Marina was Leo’s only way of having a little fun in his life.

11.03.17_18-36-05

Leo witnessed the deaths of Celina, of his parents, and his uncle…

11.03.17_18-00-31

He was on the computer, writing on an article

to show how bad the situation in Glassbolt really was.

Media around the region had just glossed over the events,

and no one knew we didn’t even have hygienic water.

11.03.17_17-02-25

Leo loved grilled cheese sandwiches.

And he liked reading the old books in our bookcase.

11.03.17_16-57-58

01.04.17_19-32-11

After Marina married Akira and they had their three kids,

Leo just tried to ignore the three rambunctious toddlers as far as he could.

01.04.17_16-51-00

Leo concentrated on his work as a journalist.

Which meant, most of all, he set out to interview people on the street.

08.05.17_22-51-44

He wrote article after article, but none ever seemd to be noticed.

04.06.17_21-59-37

04.06.17_21-32-42

He died almost without anyone noticing,

out of old age.

R.I.P., Leo.

My grandchild.

At least in the spirit world, you’re always clean and happy.

Let me rest and play a bit of my favorite game.

Waste a bit of time.

I’ll be right back counting more on my family’s story.

Until then,

sincerely yours,

Elena North

No video game

Sul Sul!

Elena North here.

Yes, I am having fun playing video games,

but…

my direct descendants didn’t have that luxury…

02-10-16_16-10-59

The thing we had, was an old computer,

that seemed to be from the stone age…

it worked only when the power was on (for some short time),

and when it did, Fabio was there.

10-09-16_20-26-50

He loved programming, and playing video games…

I couldn’t see how what he did would help our region,

but hey, I let him have fun…

fun was scarce in the postapocalyptic world.

28-08-16_20-40-53

You do remember Fabio, don’t you? The youngest of my four children.

28-08-16_20-24-10

Fabio was good and outgoing, a whiz kid.

His only source of fun beside the old computer was chess,

the family game.

17-08-16_13-33-22

In his childhood he had known only the life in the shelter,

after everything I knew in my own youth had collapsed.

But I tried to teach my kids how the world used to be,

with help of the dollhouse.

17-08-16_13-26-57

20-08-16_04-05-48

I tried to give my kids a normal family life,

as far as was „normal“ in these times.

28-08-16_20-40-53

28-08-16_20-40-37

28-08-16_20-33-43

Playing chess was the family pastime.

(We had our own version of it: stop the zombie).

We all grew older.

Patrick tried to find a beverage that was drinkable,

Celina tried to send out an emergency call to the world to repair our sewage,

and Carolin, who had restored the black market, got partnered with Florian Palm.

All the while Fabio hoggled the computer and did whatever he did.

Either he, Celina, or Florian…

one of them was always using the computer when the power was on.

08-09-16_23-16-00

It seemed to magically draw them in.

The magnetism of a computer.

08-09-16_23-06-35

Fabio said he wanted to be an „eSports Gamer“,

whatever that was.

Oh, please don’t get me started!

Just what we needed in all this chaos.

A computer game.

10-09-16_20-26-50

10-09-16_19-52-05

10-09-16_19-46-38

02-10-16_21-03-27

Carolin had her kids, Marina and Leo,

and Celina, Patrick and Florian did their things,

and Fabio was on the computer.

02-10-16_21-03-00

02-10-16_16-18-27

If he wasn’t, because the power was off,

he could be found playing chess. Of course.

06-10-16_04-14-27

Celina still tried her best to send her stinky SOS, but failed.

Fabio, like all, suffered because of the unhygienic conditions.

13-10-16_14-41-54

13-10-16_13-52-36

Florian was Fabios closest friend.

The two had similar goals in life, both of which had to do with the computer,

and I never quite understood.

31-10-16_18-42-05

Life went on in the shelter…

31-10-16_18-21-17

31-10-16_18-18-16

For Fabio, it went on with video games.

He said he wanted to get people to repair the power grid,

so that we could all play video games all day long.

… what to say about that.

26-11-16_21-12-10

26-11-16_21-27-20

26-11-16_21-11-58

21-01-17_16-00-23

Everybody grew older, as Marina grew up as well…

21-01-17_16-00-04

… and Marina tried to tell her conspiracy theory to everybody.

She claimed we were all just Sims.

Fabio was the first to believe her.

Crazy enough to believe her crazy words.

21-01-17_15-12-24

Fabio had spent enough time with „The Sims“ to know

that they were very, VERY similar to us.

And that we might just as well be Sims…

06.02.17_21-25-38

06.02.17_21-20-49

Marina inherited Fabios passion for the computer from her uncle…

… she was there trying to find a proof that we were all trapped in a matrix,

that we were all Sims.

11.03.17_16-51-53

11.03.17_17-49-45

Ha, the computer.

What a strange world to me.

Could it really be that we were all just virtual creatures?

Be as it be,

Fabios time of video gaming was up too soon.

He was going into the light.

R.I.P., Fabio.

My dear son.

Your nephew and niece soon overtook the computer from you.

And you play forever in the realm of the spirits,

where the electric power is never off.

But the question remains:

ARE WE ALL JUST SIMS?

Hopefully I can answer it soon.

Let me rest a bit, an old lady needs pauses between counting.

Until very soon,

sincerely yours,

Elena North

No luxury life

Sul Sul!

Elena North here.

Yeah, I’m comfy in my chair now,

but my direct descendants were not comfortable at all.

Their life was a life without any luxuries,

well…

… to tell the truth,

it was a life with the bare necessities.

And not much more.

11.03.17_17-50-42

But we were a family.

We had each other.

This was especially true, of course,

for my daughter Carolin,

and her husband Florian.

08-09-16_23-20-51

Ah, Florian.

08-09-16_23-29-18

I must admit at first I did not like Florian much.

His personality is not easy to handle

– he’s gloomy, kleptomaniac, evil, …

and still wants to befriend the whole world.

But well, he’s the one my daughter chose.

So I accepted him as a part of my family legacy.

10-09-16_23-20-23

Florian did… well, I did never quite get behind what he really did for a living.

He said he wanted to do a kind of start-up business, but that it just never was successful.

Whatever.

I DO know he spent most of his time on our computer playing videogames.

Or programming. Or hacking.

Wasting his life away.

10-09-16_20-20-15

Well, I have to admit he was a good husband to Carolin.

He cared that she got enough food (and thus, hydration) during her pregnancies.

Which was vitally important for her, and my future grandchildren.

10-09-16_19-31-33

10-09-16_19-28-37

For all the rest, Florian was just another member of the household…

stinky as all, tense as all, stressed out as all, unhappy as all…

06-10-16_04-14-27

He sometimes played chess with Fabio,

they seemed to get along very well.

02-10-16_15-03-31

For Marina and Leo he was their father,

but he did not much care about them.

In fact, when they were younger, he left all care to their mother, Carolin.

When they were old enough to talk, he’d teach them things about life,

but mostly he’d just sit behind the computer and mumble some answer absently…

13-10-16_13-59-06

At least he’d sleep in the same big bed with them when they’d had a bad dream,

and would not sleep in again in their small kid beds.

13-10-16_13-52-36

His closest friend in the family was Fabio.

The others, Celina and Patrick, met him with some suspicion…

27-10-16_19-08-39

He grew older as we all do,

and had not succeeded with his „plan“ of building a start-up.

29-10-16_20-05-40

What’s more, his job more and more seemed to give him headache.

Reading some of the old books we had in the bookshelf sometimes helped.

26-11-16_21-38-58

But he was getting older…

… and finally he had to leave the Earth without having completed any of his aspirations.

14-01-17_16-22-17

Well, Florian.

At least as a husband you’re okay.

Really, you are.

Go make Carolin happy in the spirit realm.

Ufff, telling the story has worn me out.

I need a short break,

if you’ll give me one.

Play a bit of games on my phone, ‚kay?

I’ll be back telling soon.

Until then,

sincerely yours,

Elena North
