No video game

Sul Sul!

Elena North here.

Yes, I am having fun playing video games,

but…

my direct descendants didn’t have that luxury…

The thing we had, was an old computer,

that seemed to be from the stone age…

it worked only when the power was on (for some short time),

and when it did, Fabio was there.

He loved programming, and playing video games…

I couldn’t see how what he did would help our region,

but hey, I let him have fun…

fun was scarce in the postapocalyptic world.

You do remember Fabio, don’t you? The youngest of my four children.

Fabio was good and outgoing, a whiz kid.

His only source of fun beside the old computer was chess,

the family game.

17-08-16_13-33-22

In his childhood he had known only the life in the shelter,

after everything I knew in my own youth had collapsed.

But I tried to teach my kids how the world used to be,

with help of the dollhouse.

I tried to give my kids a normal family life,

as far as was „normal“ in these times.

Playing chess was the family pastime.

(We had our own version of it: stop the zombie).

We all grew older.

Patrick tried to find a beverage that was drinkable,

Celina tried to send out an emergency call to the world to repair our sewage,

and Carolin, who had restored the black market, got partnered with Florian Palm.

All the while Fabio hoggled the computer and did whatever he did.

Either he, Celina, or Florian…

one of them was always using the computer when the power was on.

It seemed to magically draw them in.

The magnetism of a computer.

Fabio said he wanted to be an „eSports Gamer“,

whatever that was.

Oh, please don’t get me started!

Just what we needed in all this chaos.

A computer game.

Carolin had her kids, Marina and Leo,

and Celina, Patrick and Florian did their things,

and Fabio was on the computer.

If he wasn’t, because the power was off,

he could be found playing chess. Of course.

Celina still tried her best to send her stinky SOS, but failed.

Fabio, like all, suffered because of the unhygienic conditions.

Florian was Fabios closest friend.

The two had similar goals in life, both of which had to do with the computer,

and I never quite understood.

Life went on in the shelter…

For Fabio, it went on with video games.

He said he wanted to get people to repair the power grid,

so that we could all play video games all day long.

… what to say about that.

Everybody grew older, as Marina grew up as well…

21-01-17_16-00-04

… and Marina tried to tell her conspiracy theory to everybody.

She claimed we were all just Sims.

Fabio was the first to believe her.

Crazy enough to believe her crazy words.

21-01-17_15-12-24

Fabio had spent enough time with „The Sims“ to know

that they were very, VERY similar to us.

And that we might just as well be Sims…

Marina inherited Fabios passion for the computer from her uncle…

… she was there trying to find a proof that we were all trapped in a matrix,

that we were all Sims.

Ha, the computer.

What a strange world to me.

Could it really be that we were all just virtual creatures?

Be as it be,

Fabios time of video gaming was up too soon.

He was going into the light.

R.I.P., Fabio.

My dear son.

Your nephew and niece soon overtook the computer from you.

And you play forever in the realm of the spirits,

where the electric power is never off.

But the question remains:

ARE WE ALL JUST SIMS?

Hopefully I can answer it soon.

Let me rest a bit, an old lady needs pauses between counting.

Until very soon,

sincerely yours,

Elena North
